Daylight, without the leak that usually comes with it.
Anything that puts glass in a roof is a hole in a working surface, and the whole job is in the detailing round the edge of it. Velux and rooflights, replacements for the ones that have been dripping for years, and glass roofs and lanterns over the bigger openings.

Roof windows and glazing.
The windows themselves are sealed units made in a factory and they rarely give trouble. What gives trouble is everything around them: a flashing kit meant for a different covering, a membrane collar that was never formed, a batten cut back and never made good, or a lantern sat on a kerb that was built a bit too low.
So these three jobs are really one skill applied at three sizes. A single Velux in a loft, an old one that needs taking out and replacing, and a glass roof or lantern over a kitchen extension all fail in the same place — the junction between the glass and the roof — and all of them are fixed by detailing that junction properly in the first place.
If you just know you want more light in a dark room and have no idea what that costs, ring and describe the room. We will tell you which of these it is and come and look for nothing.

The jobs this covers.
Each of these is a job in its own right, priced on what it actually involves.
Velux window installation
New openings cut, trimmed and fitted with the flashing kit that matches the covering. Velux and equivalent, including conservation units.
Roof window repair
Leaking, misted, dripping or seized roof windows. Usually the flashing rather than the window, and usually cheaper than you were expecting.
Glass roofs and lanterns
Roof lanterns over extensions, glazed links, and conservatory roofs — repaired, reglazed, or swapped for something solid when the old one leaks and roasts.

Worth knowing.
- The flashing kit is the job
- One kit for slate, one for low-profile tile, one for deep-profile tile. Fitting the wrong one is the single most common reason a rooflight leaks.
- Notifiable work
- Cutting a new opening in a roof comes under Building Regulations, and in a loft conversion the size and position also have to suit escape. Worth settling before anything is cut.
- Listed and conservation
- Conservation rooflights sit flush with the covering rather than proud of it, and are usually what an officer will accept. They cost more, so ask early.
- One visit, not three
- If the roof is opening up anyway, that is the cheap moment to add the blind, the opener or the second window. Retrofitting any of them later costs more than it should.

The other things we do.
Most jobs turn out to be more than one of these at once. If you're not sure which you need, describe what you can see and we'll work it out.
Slating and tiling
Nearly every pitched roof on this coast is slate. Stripping them, re-covering them, matching them to the terrace next door and putting stone back on the ones that had it.
Flat roofs
Fibreglass, EPDM rubber and torch-on felt for extensions, dormers, garages and porches. Laid to falls so water actually leaves the roof.
Repairs and leaks
Slipped slates, cracked tiles, failed valleys, damp patches on the ceiling. We find where the water is getting in before we quote for anything bigger.
Chimneys and leadwork
Repointing, flaunching, chimney removal and rebuilds, plus lead flashings, valleys and soakers cut and dressed on site.
Gutters, fascias and soffits
The cheapest part of the house to look after and the one most often left. Clearing, repairing and replacing gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits.
Storm damage
Emergency call-outs, tarpaulins and temporary covers when the weather comes in off the Irish Sea. We work with insurers and can supply photos and reports.
