Roofing in Frizington.
Frizington was built for the iron ore, like Cleator Moor, and at much the same time. The result is street after street of near-identical terraces put up to a single pattern in the 1870s and 80s: simple gable roofs, few dormers, no complicated junctions, all originally covered in Welsh slate.
Simple roofs are good news. There is not much on a Frizington terrace to go wrong in a clever way — no valleys full of leaves, no cut-and-mitred hips, no lead you cannot get at. What there is instead is age. The slate went on together, so it is coming off together, and the failure is almost always the nails rather than the slate.
That uniformity is worth using. Scaffolding is a real part of the cost of a roof, and if you and next door both need doing, one scaffold across two houses is a good deal cheaper than two. We will happily price it both ways so you can go and have the conversation over the fence.
The village sits high and open, which is the other thing that shapes the work here. Nothing shelters these rows from the west.

What the weather does here.
Frizington sits on a rise with open ground to the west, so it takes wind that has come off the sea and across the fields without meeting anything. There is little salt this far inland, but plenty of force.
On an exposed simple roof, wind gets under the verge and the eaves course first. That is where slipped slates start on these terraces, and it is why a proper verge detail and a mechanically fixed ridge are worth having up here even though the village is not on the coast.

“Top service! Came out after some storm damage to my roof by storm Eowyn. They were there within the hour from me making contact and carried out a temp fix and make the roof watertight whilst i logged a claim with my insurers. Once my insurance claim was authorised they came straight back out to do the permanent repairs and even waited for the insurance payout to hit my bank before I paid them. All done in good faith and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend.”
