Flat roofs that actually shed the water.

Fibreglass, EPDM rubber and torch-on felt for extensions, dormers, garages and porches — laid to a fall so the water leaves the roof instead of sitting on it.

No call-out charge, and the phone is answered 24 hours.

Flat roofs.

Almost every failed flat roof we are called to failed for one of two reasons. Either it was laid genuinely flat rather than to a fall, so water stood on it until it found a way through; or the edges and upstands were skimped and the wind got underneath. Both are cheap to get right at the start and expensive to put right afterwards.

We take the old covering off, replace any decking that has gone soft, build the falls in with firrings, then cover it in whichever of the three systems suits the roof. Which one that is depends on what the roof is for rather than on what we would rather lay: whether you will walk on it, how big the span is, whether it is in view, and how long you want it to last.

Trims, upstands and the join into the house wall get as much attention as the middle of the roof, because that is where flat roofs leak. The middle of a flat roof almost never fails on its own.

What the job covers

  • Old covering stripped and the deck exposed
  • Soft or rotten decking replaced
  • Firrings cut in to give the roof a proper fall
  • Insulation brought up to current standard where the work calls for it
  • Fibreglass, EPDM or torch-on felt laid over the whole roof
  • Upstands, drips and edge trims formed and dressed
  • Outlet and gutter connections made good
  • Waste taken away and the roof left tested

What the work looks like.

Our own photographs, taken on our own roofs — not a stock library.

Which covering.

Fibreglass (GRP)
Seamless and hard enough to walk on. The one to pick for a balcony, a dormer or anything you will stand on. Laid wet on the day, so it wants dry weather.
EPDM rubber
A single sheet over the whole roof, so there are no joins in the middle to fail. Quick to lay, cold-applied, and long-lived on bigger spans.
Torch-on felt
Three bonded layers of polyester-reinforced bitumen. The cheapest of the three and still good for twenty years or so.
Building regulations
Replacing most of a flat roof usually brings insulation up to current standard. We price that in at the quote rather than springing it on you halfway through.
