Roofing in Cleator Moor.
Cleator Moor went up in a hurry. The iron ore was found in the 1850s and by the 1870s the population had gone from a few hundred to several thousand, and the terraces were thrown up as fast as men could be housed. That is why so much of the town looks the same: long rows of two-up two-downs, built to one pattern, roofed at one time, in Welsh slate at a decent steep pitch.
Roofs built together fail together. When one house in a row starts dropping slates, the ones either side are usually a year or two behind it, because the slates are the same age and — more to the point — so are the nails. Nail sickness is the standard failure in this town: the slate itself is often still perfectly sound, but the iron nails holding it have rusted to nothing, so slates slip one at a time on a windy night with no warning.
The other thing we see constantly here is the 1960s and 70s re-covering. A lot of these terraces were stripped of slate and re-done in concrete interlocking tiles, which are considerably heavier than what the rafters were sized for. Fifty years on, some of those roofs have visible sag along the ridge or a dip between rafters. It is fixable, but it needs looking at properly rather than covered over again.
Being local is not a slogan, it is how the job works. We are in the town, so if a slate comes off in the night we can be there before it does any harm inside, and if you want to see our work before you commit, we can walk you round to three or four roofs within ten minutes.

What the weather does here.
Cleator Moor sits inland of the coast, so it is spared the worst of the salt, but it is open to the west and the gales that come up the Ehen valley get at a roof from the same direction every time. Loose ridges and slipped slates almost always show up on the western slope first.
The rain here is persistent rather than dramatic. That is harder on gutters and flashings than a downpour is: a blocked hopper or a cement fillet that has cracked will let water in slowly for months before anyone notices the wall going dark inside.

Give us a call. Looking at it costs you nothing.
We come out, get on the roof, and tell you what's actually wrong — not what's easiest to sell you. The price we quote is the price you pay, in writing, before anyone lifts a slate. A standard re-roof is normally done inside two days.

Guttering — Google, 22 November 2019
“Top service! Came out after some storm damage to my roof by storm Eowyn. They were there within the hour from me making contact and carried out a temp fix and make the roof watertight whilst i logged a claim with my insurers. Once my insurance claim was authorised they came straight back out to do the permanent repairs and even waited for the insurance payout to hit my bank before I paid them. All done in good faith and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend.”
