Rainwater goods, and the damp they cause when they fail.
A roof is only half of keeping water out of a house. The other half is the hundred feet of plastic round the edge of it, and that is the half nobody looks at until there is a stain on the bedroom wall.

Gutters, fascias and soffits.
A gutter full of moss puts water down the wall instead of down the pipe. Give it a winter and you have a green stripe on the render; give it a few and you have damp on the inside wall and rot in the fascia and the rafter feet behind it. It is the cheapest problem on the house to fix, and the one most often left until it has turned into a joinery job.
That means most of what we do here divides in two. Either the run is basically sound and wants clearing, resealing and rebracketing, or it has had its day and wants taking off and replacing along with the fascia behind it. An honest answer about which yours is costs you nothing.
Either way the important part happens behind the gutter rather than in it. Where a fascia has gone soft we check the rafter ends before anything is boarded over, because covering rot up is not a repair — it is just hiding it somewhere you will not see it again for ten years.

- Leaking joints resealed and split sections replaced
- New brackets at proper centres to restore the fall
- Full gutter and downpipe replacement in uPVC or aluminium
- Cast iron repaired or replaced like for like where it should be
- Fascias and soffits renewed, rafter ends checked first
- Over-fascia and soffit ventilation to keep the loft dry
- Downpipes reconnected to gullies and drains properly

The jobs this covers.
Each of these is a job in its own right, priced on what it actually involves.
Gutter installation
New gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits in uPVC or aluminium, set to a proper fall and fixed to timber that has been checked first.
Gutter repairs
Cleared, flushed, resealed and rebracketed. The small job that stops the damp, the rot and the fascia replacement that follows them.

Worth knowing.
- The damp on the wall
- If there is a stain running down the outside under a joint, that is the gutter, not rising damp. Fix the gutter first and see what is left.
- Clear it once a year
- Late autumn, after the leaves are down, is enough on most houses. It is a small job that prevents an expensive one.
- No scaffold needed
- Most gutter work on a house is done off ladders or a tower, which keeps the cost down considerably against anything on the roof itself.
- Do the whole elevation
- Replacing six feet of a thirty-year-old run gives you six feet of new gutter and a colour mismatch. Usually worth doing the side in one go.

The other things we do.
Most jobs turn out to be more than one of these at once. If you're not sure which you need, describe what you can see and we'll work it out.
Slating and tiling
Nearly every pitched roof on this coast is slate. Stripping them, re-covering them, matching them to the terrace next door and putting stone back on the ones that had it.
Flat roofs
Fibreglass, EPDM rubber and torch-on felt for extensions, dormers, garages and porches. Laid to falls so water actually leaves the roof.
Repairs and leaks
Slipped slates, cracked tiles, failed valleys, damp patches on the ceiling. We find where the water is getting in before we quote for anything bigger.
Chimneys and leadwork
Repointing, flaunching, chimney removal and rebuilds, plus lead flashings, valleys and soakers cut and dressed on site.
Storm damage
Emergency call-outs, tarpaulins and temporary covers when the weather comes in off the Irish Sea. We work with insurers and can supply photos and reports.
